Header - Your personalized stationary or one created on a word processor containing for name, address and telephone number(s)
Date of the Letter Contact Person Name & Title Employers Name Employers Address Subject Line - (Optional) Re: The Position & Competition Number if applicable Salutation - Dear Mr./Ms., Last Name, (leave it out if you are not sure) Opening Paragraph - Grab the readers attention! State why you are writing, the name of the position, where you heard about the opening and that your resume is attached or enclosed. Middle Paragraph(s) - Explain how your qualifications would be of benefit to the employer. Demonstrate some knowledge of the company by showing where your specialized skills may apply in their organization. Highlight and quantify your accomplishments. This is where you tell them what you got, most importantly, what is in it for them! Closing Paragraph - Close the letter with a call to action! Tell them why you are the right person for the job. Follow up with a phone call (4-5 days) to confirm they received your cover letter / resume and to answer any questions. This is a chance to make the first personal contact, follow up, it works!
