Good Outline for a Resume

A good outline for a resume makes it easy to organize your information.

It is intended as a quick start guide to basic resume writing.

Resume writing advice or links to a detailed explanation are provided in each section.


Contact Information

Your name, address, phone number and e-mail address.

Personalized letter head is fine or a header created on a word processor is also good

Job Objective

Include the title of the job and the skills you would bring to benefit the employer.

Writing a positive, creative objective statement will grab the employers attention and help you stand out from the crowd.

Summary of Qualifications

List your skills and qualification relevant to the job posting. Use descriptive Key Words and Action Words to give your resume some pizazz.

Education

List the full name of each school attended in reverse chronological order.

List the full name of each degree and the year completed. If you are still in school, note when you are scheduled for completion. If you have not attended a post secondary institution, list the high school you attended and the year you graduated.

Work Experience

List the job title, company, period worked and a list of qualifications tailored to the employers requirements.

Affliations

List professional memberships and associations

Publications

List all articles, books and other published works.

Activities

Professional Tip:

Do not include any activities not directly relevant to the job. For example, listing hunting as a hobby may be objectionable to some people, so unless you are applying as a hunting guide, leave it out.

References(Optional)

Do not provide references

Simply state that references are available
